Super Mario Party Jamboree is the board game the whole family can play. On Switch 2, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds a new mode called Jamboree TV. If you're setting up a family game night, count your controllers first.

How many people can play on one Switch 2?

Four. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 Edition as single system (1-4). Online, it lists 1 to 20 players.

It plays in TV mode, tabletop mode, and handheld mode.

How many controllers come with Switch 2?

Two. Switch 2 comes with one Joy-Con 2 pair, a left and a right. Each one works as its own controller.

Players on one consoleWhat you need
1 or 2The Joy-Con 2 pair in the box
3 or 4Add one more Joy-Con 2 pair
Four players, four controllers.
Four players, four controllers.

Why do the Joy-Con 2 matter in Jamboree TV?

Some minigames use mouse controls. Nintendo says to "place the Joy-Con 2 controller on its side to use it like a mouse."

Some of those games have everyone playing at once. Nintendo describes one where "four players use mouse controls" to lower the safety bar on a coaster cart. Mouse controls come from the Joy-Con 2, so plan on one Joy-Con 2 per player.

Nintendo also lists minigames that use the console's built-in microphone. You clap or use your voice. Nothing extra to buy for those.

Do old Joy-Con or a Pro Controller work?

Nintendo doesn't say. The Switch 2 Edition store page only mentions Joy-Con 2.

Nintendo describes mouse controls as a Joy-Con 2 feature, so don't count on old Joy-Con for those games. For a family of four, a second Joy-Con 2 pair is the safe pick.

Do you need a camera?

No. Nintendo says the camera is "compatible in select modes only." Camera minigames in Bowser Live need a compatible USB-C camera. The rest of the game doesn't.

So skip the camera unless your family really wants those games.

Already have Jamboree on your old Switch?

You don't have to buy the whole game again. Nintendo sells an upgrade pack that lets you play the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on Switch 2. It needs the Switch version of the game.

The Switch version also runs on Switch 2 without the upgrade. Nintendo says its behavior "is consistent with Nintendo Switch." You just won't get Jamboree TV.

Who can skip this

If only one or two people will play, the Joy-Con 2 pair in the box is enough.

If you're happy playing the Switch version on Switch 2, you don't need the upgrade. You'll miss Jamboree TV, but the rest of the game works.
