- It's a one-player game. Nintendo lists it as single system (1), so siblings will take turns.
- Already have a Switch 2? You only need the game. It plays in TV, tabletop, and handheld mode.
- Buying a Switch 2 for it? Look at the Mario Kart World bundle. It adds a game up to four people can play together.
In this guide
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book came out May 21 on Switch 2. If Yoshi is on your kid's wish list and your family has an older Switch, check this first.
Can you play it on Switch 1?
No. Nintendo's US store page lists Nintendo Switch 2 as the only system. There's no version for the original Switch, the OLED model, or the Switch Lite.
If your family only has an older Switch, you'll need a Switch 2 to play it.
Is it 2 player?
No. Nintendo lists it as single system (1). The store page doesn't show a mode for a second player.
Two kids can still share it. They'll just take turns.
What if you already have a Switch 2?
You only need the game. Nintendo lists TV mode, tabletop mode, and handheld mode, so it works on the TV or on the go.
The download is 19.8GB, per Nintendo. The game also works with amiibo, which Nintendo sells separately.
What if you only have an older Switch?
You'll need a Switch 2 and the game. Since it's a one-player game, you don't need extra controllers for it.
If you're buying the console anyway, think about what else the kids will play. Yoshi is for one player at a time. The Mario Kart World bundle comes with a full download of Mario Kart World, and up to four people can race on one console. It also includes a Joy-Con 2 pair and 3 months of Nintendo Switch Online.
